The record books have not deterred heavy support for the New Zealand star The Bostonian to make Stradbroke Handicap history at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

The Bostonian, unbeaten in Queensland, will have to carry the biggest winning weight in 27 years if he is to become the first horse to complete the Brisbane Group One sprint treble.

The Bostonian has won the first two legs of Brisbane's sprint triple crown - the Doomben 10,000 and Kingsford Smith Cup – under weight-for-age conditions.

He has 57kg in the Stradbroke.

Rough Habit carried 58.5kg to win the 1992 Stradbroke, equaling the same handicap carried by Campaign King in 1988 to share the weight carrying record for the famous 1400m race since racing went metric in 1972.

Campaign King is the last horse to complete the Doomben 10,000/Stradbroke double.

No horse has won the Stradbroke with more than the 56 kg carried by Show A Heart in 2002 since Rough Habit’s victory.

Despite the historical hurdles big punters seem confident that The Bostonian will capture the sprint treble in the $.5 million Stradbroke.

Bets on The Bostonian over the weekend with TAB included $10,000 at $6 and another by the same punters of $8,000 at $5 for a potential overall collect of $100,000.

The Tony Pike-trained gelding has won all his four starts in Queensland after taking out the Listed Daybreak Lover and G3 Sunshine Coast Guineas on his first visit last year.

The Bostonian was a $51 outsider with TAB Fixed Odds when victorious in the TAB Doomben 10,000 before starting an $11 chance in the TAB Kingsford-Smith Cup.

He opened at $34 for the Stradbroke when nominations were announced on April 30.
