Tough imported stayer Libran was euthanised on Tuesday after suffering a fatal injury in Queensland.
The Chris Waller-trained gelding broke down while working at the Gold Coast in preparation for Saturday’s Brisbane Cup.
Owned by Highclere Thoroughbred Racing Australia, Libran arrived in Australia a five time winner from 12 UK starts in 2015.
He was a regular stakes performer over the past four seasons winning four Australian black type races including the G2 Chairman’s Handicap in 2016 and the G3 Kingston Town Stakes.
He also finished second in the G1 Sydney Cup that year.
Libran recorded nine wins and nine placings from 44 starts, earning over $1.4 million.
