Progressive Chris Waller-trained three-year-old Kolding is now unbeaten in four starts since being gelded, highlighted by this Group 2 success here. He settled in third last place in the 15-horse field from his wide barrier (11), tracking a good tempo. James McDonald took him deep rounding the home turn and he then accelerated well to challenge nearing the 100m and he then proved too strong to score a good win by a half-length. Baccarat Baby had a good trip in fourth place. She moved up really well to take the lead on passing the 200m and then battled very gamely for second after staging a smart effort. Pohutukawa raced in seventh place, was hindered at the 200m and then came with a good run for third looking somewhat unlucky. Seabrook settled near the tail of the field, one the rails, eased deeper and into clear running at the 300m and then ran on well for a good (1.6 lengths) fourth.
