Second-up after a promising fifth at this track two weeks ago former West Australian Derby winner Gatting defied a challenge from the hot favourite to add win ten (fifth stakes) and take his earnings to $1,392,000. He was second into stride then settled third, holding the rail from the 1400m. Enjoying a lovely run he moved one out at the 400m and went up to the leader at the top of the straight, took over at the 200m and although challenged, never looked like being caught, having more than a length to spare at the line. Favourite Galaxy Star settled last, made a sharp move turning in to be handy enough and went after the winner but could not bridge the gap. Great Shot led them into the straight, was collared at the 200m then held on well for third. Mizlecki was fourth turning and held her position, the first four well clear.
