The oldest runner (ten years) and the only Australian-bred in the ten horse field, Destiny's Kiss caused a surprise here taking out win 19 and second Winter Cup at start 97. He settled midfield one off the fence with a lap to run where he remained down the back and past the 1200m. From the 800m he crept closer to the pace but rounding into the home straight was shuffled back to be fourth last. At the top of the straight he pulled wide, ran up to be in a challenging position at the 200m, grabbed the lead at the 100m then kept going doggedly to hold on by a short head. Yogi sat third last at the 600m and equal last straightening for the run home. With a long run he found a split at the 100m, dashed through but came up a shade short. Mazaz was fourth four deep turning in, kept going solidly to share the lead at the 100m but was outgunned to the line while High Bridge maintained a strong gallop the length of the straight for a close up fourth.
