Arrowfield Shuttle Sires Make An Impact

3 minute read

Real Impact, the son of Deep Impact who will have his first Australian-bred runners next season, has raced to the top of the first season sire table in Japan.

A multiple G1 winner in Japan and Australia, Real Impact has already sired three winners from his first 12 2YO starters in Japan to be leading Kizuna, another son of Deep Impact, and To the World (King Kamehemeha) on the first season sires' list.

Real Impact's first Australian yearlings bred while he was standing at Arrowfield Stud sold for up to $240,000 this season. His rising 2YOs are being trained by the likes of Snowden Racing, Bjorn Baker, Clarry Conners, Paul Perry, Matthew Smith, Matt Cumani and Joe Pride.

The winner of the G1 George Ryder Stakes and second in the G1 Doncaster Mile at Randwick, Real Impact is taking a break from Australian stud duty this year but his first-crop Japanese 2YOs are making sure he stays on the local radar.

He opened his account when the filly Honey Rin won her debut at Monbetsu in May on the NAR racing circuit before In the Movie, his first runner on the Japan Racing Association circuit, finished second at Tokyo on June 8.

On June 16 Silk Racing's colt Try For Real went one better at the same track when he scorted over 1400m.

He was followed on June 22 by another Silk Racing juvenile Lauda Sion scoring over 1200 metres at Hanshin.

A day later another of his debutants Close To Me was third over 1600 metres on Takarazuka Kinen at Hanshin.

His success augurs well for the other Deep Impact sons on Arrowfield's 2019 roster. They are the champion sprinter miler Mikki Isle and Dubai Turf winner Real Steel.

Mikki Isle has his first Australian yearlings selling in 2020 while Real Steel is standing his first season this spring.

Meanwhile progeny by the former Arrowfield stallions Olympic Glory and Animal Kingdom have recorded significant international wins.

Olympic Glory – a son of Choisir - sired his first G1 winner when the French filly Watch Me won the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Olympic Glory stood at Arrowfield in 2015, 2016 and 2018 but will not return this year.

Watch Me, out of the Galileo mare Watchful and passed in for €30,000 at the Arqana August Yearling Sale, is among Olympic Glory's first European crop that produced 21 juvenile winners last year.

Olympic Glory, himself a 4-time G1 winner in England and France, is also the sire of Grand Glory, third in last week's G1 Prix de Diane (French Oaks).

With 20 winners this year Olympic Glory is in second place on the French and British second season sires' list.

Arrowfield graduate Earth Trilogy became Animal Kingdom's first Hong Kong winner when he won over 1600m at Sha Tin on Sunday.

Earth Trilogy raced as Table Mountain in Australia when he was prepared by Paul Messara for two wins and a city placing.

He is now in the stable of champion Hong Kong trainer John Moore.

Animal Kingdom, whose fourth Australian crop will be yearlings in 2019/20, has had a fine season in Australia headlined by his G1 Australian Derby winner Angel Of Truth , dual stakeswinner Wild Planet and the Bob & Sandra Peters home-bred Mystery Miss who won her second stakes race in last Saturday's Listed Belmont Guineas in Perth.

Animal Kingdom is fourth on the third season sires' table despite having fewer than half the runners of the leading sires Pierro and All Too Hard.
