2019 CIVIC STAKES - RACE HISTORY AND BACKGROUND

The Civic Stakes is a Listed Race conducted by the Australian Turf Club at Rosehill Gardens.

The Civic Stakes was introduced by the Sydney Turf Club in 1950 as a feature winter sprint race and was won by De La Salle.

The race was known as the Civic Handicap until it became the Civic Stakes with it elevation to Listed status.

The distance of the Civic Stakes has varied many times from six furlongs/1200m up to seven and half furlongs/1500m.

The 2019 Civic Stakes will be run for prizemoney of $150,000.

There has been only one dual winner of the Civic Stakes – Magic Gleam in 1988/89.

Other notable winners of the Civic Stakes include De La Salle, Knave, Fine And Dandy, Rush Bye, Cele's Image, Redcap, Calmness, Shakedown, Foresight, Special Girl, Zambari, Triton, Gilt Patten, Top Charger, Radiant Echo, New Atlantis, Silver Flyer, Notoire, Carael Boy, Mic Mac and Generalife.

The 2018 Civic Stakes was won by Liapari from Dreamforce and Flow.
