2019 VRC WINTER CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Hellova Street kicks on and the likes of Holbein and Waging War will be working forward from out wide with him.

WAGING WAR (4) looked the winner last time but tired late and was run down. Meets the winner on better terms and finds Craig Williams who has a great record on this card over the years. Should also find firmer footing and that looks a positive for him.

MR MARATHON MAN (1) gunned him down last time and will be looking to repeat the dose. Think the task is tougher this time but he has to be a leading hope. REYKJAVIK (9) ran well here behind Romancer and looks the one to take from that race.

Mares SPANNER HEAD (7) and MAMZELLE TESS (8) are both in form and have recent ratings that give them good chances in this. They must be respected.

Reykjavik did well in winning well here at his third start after racing previously in West Australia. He settled in ninth place on the rails from his good barrier (2) before improving behind runners on straightening. Linda Meech steered him through a gap at the 200m and he took the lead nearing the 100m and then went on to score decisively. Romancer raced in sixth place before moving up well on turning for home. He took a narrow lead approaching the 200m and then battled on well for second. Holbien raced outside the leader (Hellova Street) before getting to the front at the 400m. He then battled on quite well to take the minor placing. Of the others Royal Order made up ground from tenth at the home turn to finish (4.3 lengths) fourth while the favourite Waging War raced in second last place in the 14-horse field and steadily made ground for (5.1 lengths) seventh without threatening.
