2019 OAKLANDS PLATE - RACE HISTORY AND BACKGROUND
The Oaklands Plate is Listed race run under Set Weights and Penalties conditions for two year olds at Morphettville Parks conducted by the South Australian Jockey Club.
The Oaklands Plate was formerly run in May as part of the Adelaide carnival and run over the mile.
It was first run in 1978 and won by Grey Bonnet.
The distance of the Oaklands Plate has been reduced to 1400m. It had been run at 1600m since 2010 but was raced over varying shorter trips beforehand.
The Hayes family have had great success in the race. Colin won it twice, Peter won it twice and David has taken the prize on six occasions.
As for the jockeys Tassie Pegus, Simon Price, Dwayne Dunn and Jason Holder have won it three times.
The 2019 Oaklands Plate will be run for prizemoney of $100,000.
Notable winners of the Oaklands Plate include Credit Account (1992), Will Fly (1996), Springsteen (2000), Tully Thunder (2001), Hydrometer (2002), Romneya (2008) and Precious Lorraine (2010).
The 2018 Oaklands Plate was won by Unfair Dismissal from Firstclass Dreamer and Tongsai Boss.
