Carnwennan targeting Newbury riches in Marsh Cup date

3 minute read

Fellowes runner arrives in search of a four-timer

Charlie Fellowes is hoping Carnwennan  will prove up to the task when the progressive stayer bids to stretch his winning run to four in the Marsh Cup Handicap at Newbury.

The four-year-old gelding completed a hat-trick when lifting the Northumberland Vase on Newcastle's all-weather surface last month to take his rating up to 94, having begun his rich vein of form on a mark of 79 at York followed by success at Chelmsford.

"He's pretty good. It looks quite a hot race. When they put up 100 grand, it's not a surprise it's a hot race," said Fellowes.

"He's in great form. He's come through Newcastle in good nick. This was the obvious next place to come, he's got a good weight (8st 11lb).

"I'm looking forward to running him again."
