Quinn watching Curragh weather ahead of Group Two heat

Ground conditions will dictate whether Safe Voyage will take up his engagement in the Paddy Power Minstrel Stakes at the Curragh on Saturday.

The six-year-old is unbeaten in three starts this season – kicking off his campaign with victory in a Haydock handicap before returning to Merseyside to win the Listed Spring Trophy and the Group Three John of Gaunt Stakes.

Trainer John Quinn has given his charge the option of stepping up to Group Two level in Ireland this weekend, but would like to see some rain in the coming days.

"He's in good form, but he would want good ground or easier to be running," said the Malton-based trainer.

"He's also in the Lennox at Goodwood and there are races for him at York and Doncaster as well, so there are plenty of options.

"We'll just wait and see what the weather does."

Safe Voyage is one of 19 remaining entries for the Minstrel Stakes, with James Tate's Hey Gaman, last year's winner Larchmont Lad – who is now trained by Joseph Tuite – Richard Fahey's Mr Lupton and the David O'Meara-trained Salateen other potential British raiders.

The home team includes Ken Condon's Romanised and Aidan O'Brien's Le Brivido, who both performed with credit at Royal Ascot last month.
