RANDWICK PARLAY

RACE 5 (4) WU GOK: I doubt Chris Waller could have hand picked a better race to elevate this in-form gelding into open company after his strong performances since returning to Sydney from a stint in Queensland. The break after his trip away has worked wonders as his two starts since resuming have seen him go to a new peak with a first-up second over this course and distance before his strong last start BM88 win, again at this track, over 1800m under 57kg when he overcame being held up for a clear run well into the straight. He may have been favoured by the heavy tracks but he has equally sound credentials on better surfaces and rates too well under these conditions with a 3.5kg drop in weight from his last start win.

RACE 8 (9) ZAVANCE: Back from a tilt at the Sunshine Coast Guineas over 1600m at Caloundra on June 29 where she earned black type with a fine third after covering ground three wide for most of the trip in the heavy ground, keeping intact her perfect in the money record from three starts over the trip. She has been building strongly into her prep and should be ready to peak coming back to a firmer surface on her home track. Expect her to measure up as an excellent each-way gamble against her older rivals.

RACE 9 (12) NATALIA: Expect this speed contest to set up nicely for this promising mare who has been very good in her two starts at 1000m since resuming with a first-up win at Gosford followed by her strong finish to miss by only a nose in the heavy at this course two weeks ago when having her first Randwick experience. Rates highly as she stays in the same class, can only be improved by her last outing and gets the ideal draw to sit behind the pace on a firmer track.

TRIAL WATCH REPORT

NOTED TRIAL RUNNERS – July 20-22

RANDWICK SATURDAY: Mandela (R1); Slow Burn (R4); Mask Of Time (R5); Gresham (R7); Don't Leave Me Out (R9)

MANDELA (Randwick July 12): Trial star cost himself a win on debut at Canterbury with his erratic behaviour, resulting in him having to trial again to appease the stewards. He was given a serious test in his 1050m heat, sitting behind the pace, taking a split at the 200m and then given a proper sound out over the last 100m. He burst away to win by almost four lengths and while the overall time was slow (1.05.10; 36.30) his acceleration was another example of his obvious talent.

FLEMINGTON SATURDAY: Sylvia's Mother (R7)

SYLVIA'S MOTHER (Hawkesbury July 15): Much will be made of the classy 800m heat win by this promising mare. Despite her average time (47.40) she was visually impressive, sitting back and wide before showing her class with a fast finishing sprint over the last 100m to score narrowly.

EAGLE FARM SATURDAY: Designer Maid (R5); Yogi (R7)

KEMBLA GRANGE SATURDAY: Bold And Wild (R7)

SCONE MONDAY: I'm Kate (R3)

GOULBURN MONDAY: Canasta (R4)

WYONG TUESDAY: Coco Cuber (R3); Courageous (R3); Fulmina (R3); Heart Of The Oak (R3); Pandemic (R3); Street Scream (R4); Miss Invincble (R5); Nines Enough (R5); Mr Plow (R6);  Mileage (R8); Mosuo (R8)

STREET SCREAM (Newcastle June 14): He was the standout of this trail session, keeping intact his unbeaten record in three trials. He did it well to record the quickest of the seven 900m heats (54.04; 33.67). He has since finished soft third in a Gosford trial on July 11.

RECENT TRIAL WATCH WINNERS: Battle Guardian; Spend; Black Magnum; Sir Winkle, Super Longlea; Aloneinabaa; Haut Brion Her; Excellent Proposal; Covert Operation; Debate; Knickpoint; Miss Goodnight; Lesage; Enigami.
