Well-performed West Australian gelding Scales Of Justice staged an impressive first-up performance in winning here, his tenth win from 24 starts to date. He began well, settled nicely in fourth place (one out and one back) behind a good tempo before moving up rounding the home turn. He raced to the front coming to the 100m and then drew away to score by just over three lengths. Rising nine-year-old Jungle Edge showed his customary pace to lead and he held a break on turning for home. He then fought gamely when challenged, just finding the winner too classy over the latter stages to take a most creditable second. Cliff's Edge raced in third place on the rails and kept battling on well in the straight to hold third in a sound first-up effort for his new trainers. Bandipur raced in fifth place to the home turn and then fought on well over the closing stages for (6.1 lengths) fourth. The favourite Sesar disappointed, racing below his best at his first start at Caulfield. He had quite a good trip in sixth place but was under pressure from the 600m, veered out at the home turn and then battled on from that point for (8.3 lengths) sixth.
