3 minute read

The Joseph Jones partnership was suspended from training for four months by Canberra Racing Club stewards on June 26 after an inquiry into the death of the racehorse I Am Rocky.

The stewards found the partnership failed to provide veterinary treatment to the four-year old entire when such treatment was necessary. A necropsy report tendered in evidence revealed that the horse died from a colitis related illness.

The three members of the partnership subsequently appealed against the severity of the penalty.

The ACT Racing Appeals Tribunal dismissed their appeal but has granted Barbara Joseph a stay of the last three months of the suspension on the basis of lesser culpability compared to the other members of the training partnership.

The orders of the tribunal will take effect from August 8 with the periods of suspension for Barbara Joseph (one month), Paul Jones (four months) and Matthew Jones (four months) to commence from that day.
