Parnham has not ridden since he was injured in a serious fall at Ascot in January of 2018.

He fractured vertebra in his neck and underwent spinal fusion surgery that threatened to end his career.

He has undergone an intensive rehab program designed to strengthen ligaments that were unstable around his C4 vertebrae and is now ready to resume his career after competing in almost 20 barrier trials in recent weeks.

His rehab was similar to the program Formula 1 drivers use to strengthen their neck muscles.

Parnham is looking forward to a low key return at the Belmont meeting on Wednesday.

"I won't be accepting full books. I'm in no rush and I've made sure I'm 100 per cent before returning on race day," Parnham said.

"I'm feeling confident, my instincts are back and I'm excited about my return."

Parnham is a member of Perth's leading racing family, being one of three jockey sons of 13-time champion Perth trainer Neville Parnham . The 30-year-old is the middle pin of the trio with Steven the eldest and Chris the junior of the three jockeys.

His is working on reducing his riding weight and will initially not be taking rides under 57kg.

Chris Parnham , runner-up to champion jockey William Pike in last season's Perth premiership, wil start a 23-day careless riding suspension after Wednesday's meeting at Belmont.
