Hogmanay made it back to wins for the Chris Waller stable when he won last Sunday's Taree Gold Cup (2000m) after winning his first race in 20 months at Rosehill on August 10.

Hogmanay was Waller's first ever starter at a Taree race meeting with Sydney jockey Tommy Berry making a special trip to ride the gelding.

The Wyong Cup (2100m) is one of Waller's 'go to' races, the champion trainer having won the race six times since 2010.

Classy Kiwi stayer Blue Breeze is expected to be a rival for Hogmanay in the Wyong Cup.

Blue Breeze won first-up over 1400m at Pukekohe on August 10 when having his first start since his placings in the G2 Avondale Cup and G1 Auckland Cup in February and March.

The Allan Morley-trained Blue Breeze is racing in the Cambridge Stud colours of Brendan and Jo Lindsay after they bought a 10 percent share in the five-year-old before his first-up win.

Breeder Tony Gavigan said the ownership group sold down their shareholdings as the Lindsay's buy-in will cover the costs of Blue Breeze's Australian campaign aimed at securing a Melbourne Cup start.

"We will go to the Wyong Cup on September 6 and then the Newcastle Cup on September 20. If we can get a win I think we can get enough weight to get in the Melbourne Cup," Gavigan said.

Blue Breeze's has four wins and six placings from 25 starts.
