2019 SAN DOMENICO STAKES – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Easily one of the main highlights of the afternoon with this year's Group 3 San Domenico Stakes. Small field and not a lot of speed on paper, tactics will be very interesting.

BIVOUAC (3) returned in a big way last start when making light work of his rivals in the Vain Stakes. Was visually very impressive and the clock certainly backed up the strength of his performance. Handles all tracks and sets a decent marker to run at.

YES YES YES (1) never really got his chance in the Slipper when forced to be dragged back from the draw. Two trials in the lead up have only been fair, but he certainly has the talent.

EXCEEDANCE (6) should be unbeaten, the sectionals he ran in defeat last start were scary good. He commands plenty of respect fresh, while ANAHEED (4) should improve sharply with the sting out.

With just four opponents Exceedance won very well here over the hot favourite and big last start winner Bivouac and looks to have a bright future. He sat a handy fourth early (rails) and tracked the leader to the turn in. Into the straight he moved out three wide and near the 300m looked to gather in the two leaders, levelled up at the 200m and shot a length in front at the 100m. He was in command to the line and drew out by two lengths to win his second race (maiden stakes) in three starts. Bivouac took over second from the 600m, sitting outside the leader, went up to co-lead at the 400m and was right there at the 200m but had no answer when the winner swept by, holding on for second from Anaheed who led them in, co-led from the 400m, collared at the 200m and battled bravely to the line for third. The first three had the race to themselves.
