2019 CONCORDE STAKES – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

What a race with six of our star sprinters set to clash in this year's Group 3 Concorde Stakes. They should fly!

NATURE STRIP (3) was below his best in the Doomben 10,000 - but had clear excuses and appears much better suited in this affair. Has trialled very well in the lead up and has drawn to sit just off the speed. Biggest tick, the ear muffs come off. On speed figures he is the fastest horse, let's just hope we get to see him let rip.

SUNLIGHT (4) has only missed the money once in 16 starts and went to the paddock off a game effort in the TJ Smith Stakes. No doubt connections will be hoping she gets closer to him than the last time they met (beaten 6L in the Listed Lightning Stakes).

PIERATA (2) is likely to find the 1000m too short, but still should be strong late, while GRAFF (5) also has to be respected.

Top class sprinter Redzel made an impressive return to racing with a bold front-running performance in winning here, enhancing his prospects for a third The Everest (1200m) victory on October 19. After a good beginning, he settled well in front, lifted the pace significantly from the 600m and then fought back to score by a long head in the very smart time of 56.28. Pierata settled in last place in the six-horse field, went deep rounding the home turn and then came with a strong late bid to fail narrowly in a very good first-up effort. Graff raced in fifth place, got along the rails at the home turn, went to third at the 200m and then fought really well to hold that position in a most promising first-up performance. The favourite Nature Strip was third early on but raced very keenly when the early tempo slackened. James McDonald had little alternative but to make an early move and after moving up approaching the home turn, he battled on quite well for (2.7 lengths) fourth. Sunlight was third to the home turn but raced below her best in battling on for (3.7 lengths) fifth, later showing some signs of soreness. The previously unbeaten Queenslander Zoustyle raced outside the leader and eventual winner before tiring for (4.7 lengths) last after advancing significantly in class here.
