Keal to take short break in weight battle

3 minute read

In-form Queensland apprentice Nick Keal hopes to overcome his weight problems by taking a short break from riding.

Leading Queensland apprentice Nick Keal will take a short break from riding and seek advice on how to get his weight under control.

Keal has been in great form and rode a double at Ipswich on Wednesday which took him to equal second on the state jockeys' premiership with 16 winners.

He is also fourth on the metropolitan jockeys premiership with eight winners.

Keal has been struggling to ride below 55.5kg and was fined $300 for being able to take only 1-1/2 kilos of his 3kg claim on Rerun in the first race at Ipswich.

Stewards noted Keal had a poor recent record for the same offence.

"I will have a short break from riding when I hope to get my weight right," he said.

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
