Say From SA: Morphettville – 14th September 2019

3 minute read

It is only a small day of acceptances in Adelaide so the value will be hard to find on Morphettville Guineas day.

One horse with some class on her side is Blue Morpho and she will be much better suited nearer the mile.

First up she was barely in the frame early but made up some ground by halfway and also late to go under around two lengths.

That was over 1250m and remember her last win was 1400m plus she is a Listed winner at the mile.

Thinking this race is actually an easier one considering it is for mares only. She is not facing too much winning from her rivals.

In the Morphettville Guineas we see a lot of form coming from a race two weeks back won by Regardsmaree which wasn't run too quickly.

It wasn't an emphatic race and so looking elsewhere now that we get to the mile.

The filly Raptures is still a maiden but is bred to want this and even further.

At Geelong on soft ground, she was last of 13 at the 800m and still 11th on the corner.

But once pulled to the outside, she found the line strongly suggesting she really needs this trip.

These races can be won by those who are staying types and since it is hardly an elite field, happy to take the gamble.

Enjoying the run of the race in the small field of six, Bonvicini drew out late to take her record to two from three and her maiden stakes win. She settled third (rails), moved off the fence before straightening, got the split at the 300m and ran up to co-lead at the 200m. Taking over, she then drew clear and kept increasing the lead to the line, out by a length and three quarters. Silent Sovereign was last (rails) at the 600m, still last at the top of the straight, then finished quite well without challenging the winner. Lady Loire co-led turning in, led at the 200m and battled away losing second late.
