Kilmore Cup Transferred To Seymour

3 minute read

The 2019 Kilmore Cup will be held at Seymour after confirmation that there will be no racing at the Kilmore track until next year.

The race will be run on November 24 and will retain its official name and be run under the same conditions with a prize pool of $150,000.

Racing Victoria announced that four Kilmore meetings across October, November and December had been transferred after the club asked for further time for the newly renovated track to consolidate.

The October 7 meeting will be held at Benalla, November 1 at Tatura, November 24 (Kilmore Cup) at Seymour and December 30 at Werribee.

Track enhancements planned for Seymour will also require the movement of four scheduled race meetings away from the track later in the season.

Meanwhile restrictions have been placed on horses working on the Cranbourne sand trails where jockey Mikaela Claridge died in a trackwork fall on August 30.

"The use of the sand trails has been restricted to daylight hours whilst the investigation is ongoing," said Cranbourne Turf Club CEO Neil Bainbridge.

"The club is co-operating with WorkSafe in regards to the devastating incident. On a regular day more than 250 horses work on the trails, which are only for trotting and slow

cantering.

"The trails have been in use for more than 15 years and in that time this was the first incident where a rider or horse required medical treatment."
