2019 KINGSTON TOWN STAKES – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Absolute cracker with a host of leading chances in this year's Group 3 Kingston Town Stakes. In the capacity field expect a solid tempo.

COME PLAY WITH ME (11) was very good in his debut for the Chris Waller stable, sticking on well to finish second behind Wu Gok. Form has already been franked and hard to ignore his dominant display over Gatting two back. Not sure he loves the heavy, but should appreciate the step up in trip. JMac sticks and he should prove hard to beat.

BIG DUKE (10) creates plenty of interest fresh with Nash booked. Hasn't won in over 700 days, but gets conditions to suit and certainly races well at Randwick. FINCHE (4) did enough first up and will no doubt relish the step up in trip. McEvoy a key booking and he looms as a major threat. GIRL TUESDAY (16) is simply airborne this preparation, next best.

Form Preview

British-bred stayer Finche, a solid fourth in last year's Melbourne Cup (Gr, 1, 3200m) showed the benefit of his first-up fifth in the Chelmsford Stakes (Gr 2, 1600m) here a fortnight ago in taking out this Group 3 race in promising fashion. He began well and was given a good trip by Kerrin McEvoy behind the leader (Stampede). He challenged that runner at the 200m and finished a bit too well to score a good win, looking suited to further. Stampede went to the front, set a reasonable tempo and then fought gamely for second, beaten a long neck. Carzoff raced in sixth place, moved up nicely on turning for home and then battled well for third. Grey Lion raced in seventh spot, on the rails, eased deeper on passing the 300m and then kept running on nicely for (1.9 lengths) fourth in a good effort at his second run this preparation.
