The Japanese-bred Hush Writer followed his good second in the Wyong Cup (2100m) on September 6 with a very good win here, his second Australian stakes success and his third win in 12 starts. He was given a good trip by Tim Clark travelling in fourth place before improving nearing the home turn. He got to the front on passing the 200m and then dug deep when challenged to win well in a good staying effort. Attention Run chased the free-running leader (Mawaany Machine), went to the front on straightening and then fought well for (half-length) second. The favourite Our Candidate settled beyond midfield and was conceding the leader about 12 lengths at the 1200m. He gradually improved coming to the home turn, looked dangerous when he moved up at the 200m and then kept fighting on quite well for a close-up third. Master Of Arts was midfield on the rails, got between runners on turning for home and then battled on quite well for (2.6 lengths) fourth.
