2019 GILGAI STAKES – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Sunlight, Dothraki and I Am Someone all position handy to what looks like being a building tempo. SUNLIGHT (7) has a terrific record on the back up and a terrific record down the straight. She was left chasing the whole way around the 1000m in the Moir last week and based on that she is desperate for 1200m now.

Gets it and think she can make the most of her fitness edge on SANTA ANA LANE (1). He's clearly a big threat regardless. Top sprinter around and while his fresh record says that he typically takes a run we are only two weeks out from his destination. Got to be around the mark.

ZOUTORI (4) is a cut below that duo but nice winning return here and should run well. DOTHRAKI (2) is a non-winner but he is never far away and his run here last time but typically good.

Form Preview

Third run back off a strong finish for third in the Moir Stakes (Gr 1, 1000m), Sunlight returned to her best with an all-the-way win here, the triple Group 1 winner claiming win 11 in 19 starts. Despite a wide draw she began well and quickly found the fence and the lead well before they reached the crossing. Rider Luke Currie nursed her past the 400m then gave her a shake at the 250m to ease clear. Going strongly, she had two lengths to spare at the 100m and even though just a half length to the good at the line was not going to be caught. Santa Ana Lane sat last at the crossing, found a split at the 400m, accelerated quickly to be second at the 100m then went after the winner but too late. A nice run from Zoutori who was widest and third last at the 600m, cruised up to third at the 200m and kept on strongly to the line for third. Vital Silver was second at the 400m and tried hard all the way to the line for fourth.
