2019 THE BART CUMMINGS – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Wolfe rolls on and Dal Harraild will be up there. Think we get a genuine tempo. SURPRISE BABY (3) gets here quickly from the mile but that was the plan all along and we know that he stays well. Thought he was terrific short of his trip first up and his form last campaign was terrific. Deserves a spot in the Cup and can book his ticket today.

Not a soft race by any means, though, and KING OF LEOGRANCE (9) is certainly ready to win one after a pair of good efforts leading in. No luck at all last time and think he should have won there.

ALFARRIS (6) got the job done there and has a hope again. No match for Surprise Baby in the autumn however. TE AKAU CALIBURN (12) was the best closer from the back but never threatened. ETYMOLOGY (7) has a hope.

Surprise Baby staged another very solid staying performance in scoring here, gaining a start in the Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) in the process. Having his second run this preparation, he travelled nicely back in ninth place before improving rounding the home turn. He then put in a strong run (out deep), hit the front at the 100m and then went on to win well, his fifth win in ten starts. Supernova raced in sixth place, improved along the rails on turning for home, continued through to second at the 300m, briefly hit the front at the 200m and then battled on very well for second. Wolfe went to the front, was overtaken at the 200m and then kept battling back really well to take third, while Ventura Storm was handy most of the way and then fought on well in the straight for (3.8 lengths) fourth.
