Chris Waller can win another staying race with the 2019 The Metropolitan at Randwick on Saturday.

Brimham Rocks won last time and is fancied again at $4.40 in the 2019 The Metropolitan (2400m) at Randwick on Saturday.

2019 THE METROPOLITAN – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Another key highlight with a field of 18 in this year's Group 1 Metropolitan Handicap. Speed looks solid enough over the 2400m journey.

BRIMHAM ROCKS (12) bounced back in a big way at Caulfield last start when spacing his rivals over 2000m. Started 7/2 favourite in this race last year and only went down narrowly. Only rises 1.5kg and is arguably going better this time around. Drawn to get a lovely run for McEvoy and appears well placed to go back to back.

SCARLET DREAM (15) found the line well in a slowly run affair last start and is sure to appreciate the step up in trip. Second placing in the ATC Oaks last prep leaves her very well placed.

STAMPEDE (5) is in career best form and is sure to take some catching, while NEUFBOSC (4) is the big sleeper. Lightly raced and more than capable on his prior best form in France.

Former West Australian-trained gelding Come Play With Me, who was having his third start for the Chris Waller stable, staged a solid staying effort in scoring here. He settled in eighth place before improving nicely between runners at the home turn. He went to fourth at the 300m and then kept finishing on well to grab a narrow victory. Gallic Chieftain raced in tenth place before commencing a good run at the home turn. He loomed at the 100m only to be beaten in the final strides for (long head) second. Sir Charles Road raced outside the leader (Stampede), challenged halfway down the straight and kept battling on well for a close-up third. Stampede again went to the front, set quite a reasonable tempo, got a break on straightening and held on well for fourth, beaten less than a length. Big Duke made ground from 12th at the home turn for (1.1 lengths) fifth while the favourite Brimham Rocks was always well back and disappointed in finishing (3.8 lengths) ninth.
