3 minute read

International visitor Raymond Tusk and the locally-trained Steel Prince will not be acceptors for Saturday's $5 million Caulfield Cup.

Raymond Tusk's trainer Richard Hannon announced today that his stayer will miss Saturday's 2400m event, improving the chances of some borderline entries gaining a start.

Raymond Tusk, the first horse Hanon has sent to the spring carnival, was 19th on the latest order of entry for the Caulfield Cup.

Hannon will now focus on a start in the $8 million Melbourne Cup at Flemington on November 5.

The Anthony Freedman-trained Steel Prince missed a vital Caulfield Cup prep race when he was a late scratching at the barrier from last Saturday's Herbert Power Stakes won by The Chosen One.

He was ruled out by vets with abrasions to his thigh after he became fractious in the barrier and kicked out. The vet also found Steel Prince to be lame in his left hind leg.

He was 36th on the Caulfield Cup order of entry and needed to win the Herbert Power to secure a start.

Subsequent x-rays have revealed no serious injuries with Freedman now considering starting him in the G3 Geelong Cup on Wednesday week as his final lead-up to the Melbourne Cup.

Steel Prince is guaranteed a Melbourne Cup start as the winner of the Listed Andrew Ramsden Stakes at Flemington earlier this year.

The Chris Waller stable has also advbsed that Kings Will Dream, ballot exempt for the Caulfield Cup after his last start win in the Turnbull Stakes, wil also be withdrawn.

Kings Will Dream will have his next start in the $5 milion WS Cox Plate at Moonee Valey on Saturday week.
