Racing Queensland will experiment with 10-race cards in Brisbane to co-incide with the Melbourne spring carnival.

Racing Queensland will trial a new format for midweek and Saturday metropolitan racing, starting at Doomben on Wednesday.

There will be seven races on Wednesdays with the usual eighth race being moved to make 10 races each Saturday.

The experiment will initially run for four weeks.

Racing Queensland chief executive Brendan Parnell said the Caulfield Cup, Cox Plate and Victoria Derby days were traditionally some of the biggest turnover days in Queensland.

"By aligning ourselves with them we hope to boost turnover in Queensland," he said.

Meanwhile, work will begin on a redevelopment of the Ipswich course proper on November 4.

The 21 Ipswich Friday and Wednesday meetings will be shared between Doomben, Gatton, Beaudesert, Rockhampton, Sunshine Coast, Kilcoy, Dalby and Warwick.

The first transferred Ipswich meeting venue will be at Gatton on Victoria Oaks day November 7.

The upgrade of the track will include replacing the drainage and irrigation systems.
