Having his second run this preparation, The Velvet King enjoyed a good trip from his inside barrier (1), tracking the leader (Great Shot). He got into clear running shortly after straightening, hit the front on passing the 100m and then held on to score well, his seventh win from 13 starts and his third at stakes level. Achernar Star settled near the tail of the 11-horse field, commenced a wide move on turning for home and then came with a strong finish for a close second in a smart effort at his second run back. Great Shot went to the front, set quite a good pace and then fought back well for third.
