A grand old horse Happy Clapper put up a great effort to win the 2019 Craven Plate at Randwick on Saturday.
He took up the front for Tommy Berry and kept running to just hold on.

Winning Trainer: Pat Webster
On making the speed: "Only thing I said to Bjorn Baker don't worry about the speed, we'll be making it [in jest]. Oh my god."
On the win: "To do something he's not used to doing, he's an amazing horse. I think it was a great ride. He's an amazing animal. He's broken $7m now. We can get that new car Chrissie. Volvo here we come. We've been through it - the Epsom, the Doncaster what more can we say."
On the run: "I looked the other way. I didn't think he could keep doing it. He's just raced to another level today. I didn't think when he took off he could keep going. A great horse for me to be able to train him."
Winning Jockey: Tommy Berry
On the run: "I knew I couldn't win from where I was."
"The only thing he told me not to do. I don't know where I took off from. You did say through the week don't be afraid to take off. ["That was tongue in cheek" Pat Webster]."
On the horse: "Full credit to the horse. He's an old marvel.
Pat Webster: "Will you ride him in the Gong at Kembla?"
Tommy: "Yep why not".
Beaten Jockeys:
Tim Clark (Samadoubt): "Just beaten for a little bit of speed early so he got into an indifferent position for him. I still thought he ran well, not beaten far."
Hugh Bowman (Life Less Ordinary): "He ran his usual consistent race - I was pleased with him."
Adam Hyeronimus (Stampede): "He went fantastic. We had to work to get to the front then we were pressured once we got there then Tommy went forward so it wasn't a very well run race for us."
Josh Parr (Tally): "Terrific effort. We got into a bit of a bumping duel with Life Less Ordinary as he was trying to push out. Obviously I was going really well and it just hindered him over his last 100m, I think it had an effect on his last 100m."
Glen Boss (The Candy Man): "The track has firmed up as the day has gone on and he needs his toe in the ground. I wouldn't drop off him if he gets the right conditions as he's got ability but he just was not suited by today's conditions."
James Innes Jnr (Harper's Choice): "I got into a lovely spot. Obviously the mid-race move by the winner helped us with getting a bit more of a flow into it. I thought he'd run on a bit better than he did given we had a nice run. Back in a handicap race he'll go better."
Nash Rawiller (Danzdanzdance): "I thought she did a good job. She travelled a little keenly in the run coming off one soft trial here . It was definitely a pass - she went well."
