Magical continued her love affair with Qipco British Champions Day as she added the Champion Stakes to her win in the Fillies & Mares last year.
The four-year-old made light of a punishing schedule for a Group 1 performer which had seen her win the Irish Champion Stakes a month ago before finding the mile and a half in the Arc a trip too far but still finishing a gallant fifth on very soft ground 13 days ago.
Bookmakers were quick to shorten Magical for the Breeders' Cup Turf, a race she found only Enable too good a year ago, with William Hill out of line at 5-1 as Paddy Power and Betfair went 4-1 from 5-1.
Trainer Aidan O'Brien, winning his first Champion Stakes, doffed his hat to the filly's constitution after she had dug deep to hold of Addeybb.
"She is so tough and so game – she's an amazing filly really. She is by Galileo which makes her very special. Mentally they are just unbelievable," said O'Brien, completing a double on the card after Kew Gardens in the Long Distance Cup.
Donnacha O'Brien was always well placed on Magical, who travelled sweetly tracking the front-running Regal Reality, but when he asked her to win her race she found Addeybb going with her but unable to get closer than the three-quarters of a length he was beaten, giving the filly 3lb.
The winning rider added: "She is really, really good and you wouldn't find a better-looking mare."
