Denman Repaying Twin Hills Stud

3 minute read

The faith Twin Hills Stud has placed in accomplished sire Denman was rewarded with a stakes double at Caulfield and Randwick on Saturday.

Twin Hills purchased a big share and standing rights to the son of Lonhro this year with the former Darley stallion now into his first season at the Cootamundra stud.

Homebred By Darley at Woodlands Stud, Denman (Lonhro x Pleach) won nine of his 12 starts including the G1 Golden Rose among his six wins in stakes races between 1200m and 1400m.

He has been equally successful since he went to stud in 2010, siring m,ore than 300 winers of almost 800 races including 16 stakes winners.

Those black type winners include Saturday's winners Humma Humma in the Listed Alinghi Stakes at Caulfield and Deprive in the G3 Sydney Stakes at Randwick.

A half brother to the dam of this year's Golden Slipper winner Kiamichi, Denman features other Golden Slipper winners Vain, Marscay and Dark Eclipse in his pedigree.

Now unbeaten in six Randwick starts, Deprive returned from a brief stint in Victoria and back to his best form, giving his opposition few excuses in a terrific win here, taking his consistent record to eight wins (three stakes) in 13 starts. He was slow away to settle second last, where he remained to the 600m and was last at the top of the straight. Pulling widest he wound up and caught the pack at the 200m then continued to power on, grabbing the lead at the 50m and was doing best at the line by a long head. Champagne Cuddles sat sixth, three deep at the 600m, threaded between runners from the 300m and drove at the lead inside the 100m but was outgunned. From fourth turning in, Brutal got out at the 350m, went up to second and challenged the leader then led briefly at the 100m but was swamped late for third. Pacemaker Home Of The Brave led to the 150m then hung gamely for fourth.
