The Aidan O'Brien-trained Hunting Horn staged a solid performance in winning here on his Australian debut. Given a good trip by Ryan Moore, racing in fourth place (behind a steady tempo), he moved up well rounding the home turn, took the lead at the 100m and then went on to score comfortably, looking suited to further in a good lead up to the Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m). The favourite Mr Quickie raced in fifth place on the rails before switching out and improving well (deep) from the 600m. He challenged strongly at the home turn and then fought well for second, finding the winner a bit too good. The Joseph O'Brien-trained Downdraft raced outside the leader (Shraaoh), went to the front at the home turn and then fought on well for third, when having his first start since racing in Ireland in August. Humidor raced in last place in the eight-horse field, went widest of all approaching the home turn and then battled on quite well for (2.4 lengths) fourth, the lack of a solid early pace eventually proving a disadvantage.
