2019 CANTALA STAKES – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Big field and high pressure can be expected for the full course of the mile. CHIEF IRONSIDE (15) didn't have a lot of luck in the Toorak but found his best form in the Crystal Mile at the Valley last week and looks a big chance on the back of that. Was a bunched finish there but the race still rated well and back against the handicapper he appears well treated.

ROYAL MEETING (5) ran well fresh and was off a long break there. Horse with plenty of talent and huge upside. No surprise to see him jump out of the ground second up.

CLIFF'S EDGE (7) ran really well behind Chief Ironside last week and can give this a shake on speed from a low draw. High pressure typically suits him. NIGHT'S WATCH (8) didn't have a perfect run through behind FIERCE IMPACT (6) in the Toorak. Think the pair will both run well here.

Japanese-bred Fierce Impact backed-up his Toorak Handicap (Gr 1, 1600m) win at Caulfield on October 12 with another Group 1 victory here. He settled back in 12th place under Craig Williams, improved (between runners) rounding the home turn, got a split at the 300m, hit the front on passing the 200m and then fought gamely to win well. Fifty Stars got a good trip from barrier 3, racing in fifth place on the rails. He got through to challenge at the 300m and then battled very well for (short head) second. Cascadian settled near the tail of the field, saved ground behind runners at the home turn, finally got a split at the 200m and then ran on really well for third. So Si Bon settled back in 14th place, improved (wide with cover) rounding the home turn, put in his bid in the centre of the track at the 200m and then fought on well for (1.6 lengths) fourth. Best Of Days raced in tenth place, improved (deep) nearing the home turn, was in a challenging position at the 200m and the kept battling on well for (3.3 lengths) fifth.
