2019 GOLDEN EAGLE – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Easily the main highlight of the afternoon with the inaugural Golden Eagle. Expect a solid tempo in the near capacity line up.

ARCADIA QUEEN (15) won very well on debut for the Chris Waller stable before sent out favourite in the Everest. Failed to fire there, however she appears much better placed getting out to 1500m. Drawn to get a lovely run and anywhere near her peak and she is sure to take plenty of beating.

KOLDING (3) held off the challenge of Te Akau Shark last start to win the Epsom and love him kept fresh (28 days). Looked very good at the trials and appears ready to raise the bar again. Major threat.

BRUTAL (1) was simply out-sprinted in the Sydney Stakes last start and is much better suited here. Expect sharp improvement. CLASSIQUE LEGEND (2) had no luck last start and obviously commands respect.

Form Preview

Following his light-weight victory in the Epsom Handicap (Gr.1, 1600m), Kolding took his already good form to a new level here with another top performance at set weights to score win eight at start 15. He was away quickly to settle third when they reached the course proper then fourth (rails) past the 1200m only to be shuffled back to midfield at the 800m. Rounding into the straight he waited for a run, moved out but was blocked then went back to the fence. Past the 300m he weaved in and out and caught the pacemaker at the 50m then drove to the line for a good long neck win. Sunlight was very brave in defeat. She took over the pace at the 1000m, hugged the fence and led them into the straight where she tried to slip clear. Out by two lengths at the 200m, she kept going strongly but was cut down in the last 50m. Mizzy was fifth (rails) in behind the leader from the 600m. She kept to the fence the length of the straight and never gave in for a hard fought third. Behemoth showed plenty of courage after rounding into the straight fifth, three out, and kept on strongly for fourth.
