Winning an extra bonus on top of the winner’s purse, Dalasan made it a second South Australian win in the 2019 Carbine Club Stakes at Flemington on Saturday.
Hugh Bowman bought the colt to the middle of the track and he really hit the line strongly to win at the mile.

Leon Macdonald is absolutely rapt with his horse Dalasan. @FlemingtonVRC @MacdonaldRacing pic.twitter.com/BiQvK2bq6K
Winning Trainer: Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas (Leon speaking)
On preparations towards this race from the Caulfield Guineas: "He went home and spent a week in the paddock, then we strengthened his work up a bit. He had a good gallop last Tuesday morning - a really good one. Then that was it for him. We just freshened him up after that and he just came here really well today.
Leon's opinion of Dalasan: "He's very good, I reckon. He's right up there (with the best he's trained). Whether he's as good as Umrum and Gold Guru, I'm not sure but he's up there.
"He's never missed stake money, this horse. And he's won over all sorts of trips. He always showed us potential.
On whether the wet track presented concerns: "No. He won on a damp track over there (in SA). I wasn't worried."
From part-owner Harry Perks on earning the $1 million bonus ($850,000 to the owners): "Fantastic. We did go this way a little bit because of that bonus. We stayed at the mile rather than going to other races. Leon has done a great job getting him ready for this race. How exciting… I can't even feel the rain!"
Dalasan cost $70,000: "I bred the horse. We always liked him as a type and I got a lot of my mates involved. It worked out really well."
Winning Jockey: Hugh Bowman
On how Dalasan settled today: "He settled a lot better. I had a better draw and I think the horse was probably more suited at Flemington than Caulfield. He was a beaten favourite at Caulfield in the Guineas. We came here with high expectations."
"We were all a little bit deflated after the Guineas. The Blinkers went on for that race and probably worked against him. Full credit to the team for going back a step, preparing him for this race. It is great to win on the big stage."
"I had a good draw and the Blinkers were off. We all agreed that the Blinkers might have been the trick for him at Caulfield. It was obvious they worked against us and against the horse. We came here with a lot of confidence.
On the work of the Leon Macdonald stable preparing Dalasan: "I'd like to give full credit to Leon Macdonald, his team and Racquel Clark who usually rides the horse. They have done a wonderful job with him and have brought him through his grades."
"I haven't been on his back since I rode him at Caulfield. I'm the pilot today but all of the work has gone in without me. He is an exceptional young horse. I think he has got improvement. When he went to the front he was waiting for something, you can see clearly on the footage. I think when he gets it all together and really learns how to get to the line you will see a serious Group 1 horse in the future."
"It may of. I don't think we needed the toe in to win today. If he had of won the Caulfield Guineas he would have been a very short priced favourite today. We were confident we'd see the best of him and that was exactly what we did."
Thoughts on key rides further into the program: "I'm really looking forward to Bivouac. He is an exceptional young colt and I'm looking forward to the Derby too. The Derby has been a great race to me over the years and I'm hoping we can add another one to the mantlepiece soon."
