After a series of good runs, Exceedance got a well deserved G1 in the 2019 Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington on Saturday.
Sitting back nearer the inside, Dwayne Dunn surged him up inside Bivouac to score.

Winning Trainer: Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes (Wayne comments)
On the form of the 3yos: "I saw Bivouac and thought not you again. It was a great race and the best part about it was the three best horses in the race ran one, two, three. It has franked the form for all these colts/filly. They are a great bunch of 3yos and good horses going into the Autumn."
On what it means to Exceedance: "At the end of the day he's owned by Vinery and co. When he won the San Domenico he had a box ready to go. He is probably a $10/15m stallion. He's not going to be sold so it depends on his service fee. $50/60,000 sounds pretty good to me. It has been a big year for us."
"We won with Brutal in the Doncaster and now this bloke. To make two great stallions in one year, I know I'm beating my own drum but you know what, if you can't do it now when can you do it."
Winning Jockey: Dwayne Dunn
Pre race tactics: "We had a game plan before the race. We knew we were only going to win it late. There was a little bit of a bang together at the start with Craig Williams (Ruuca) and another one on my outside."
In transit: "I saw the back of Libertini and Bivouac and I thought they were the right horses to take me where I needed to go. I got on the back of them."
On his association with Team Hawkes and Vinery: "It is great to be with Team Hawkes, the stallion making stable it is and it's great to be involved with Vinery Stud with Peter Orton and his team."
"Johnny Hawkes, he gives you so much confidence. They all expect you to do your best. It is great when everything comes together."
"We work hard with the babies and we're here to try and make stallions.
Thoughts on Exceedance's best traits: "His attitude. You can see he just walks. I trialled him here. Little do they know we did him early as a baby down here and then he went back to Sydney, they took him off us."
"I was fortunate enough to ride his mother (Bonnie Mac), she won a Group 2 in Adelaide. It is a high class family and today he has come to the fore on a wet track."
Beaten Jockeys:
Hugh Bowman (Bivouac): "Superb effort. He's such a good horse. He and Exceedance have had a few battles over the spring and I can see them having a few more in the autumn."
Michael Walker (Accession): "Just outclassed."
Tim Clark (Cosmic Force): "Traveled really well. Just thought he might've given a bit more."
Linda Meech (Sartorial Splendor): "I don't think he backed up from last week.
James Winks (Alabama Express): "He ran well. Probably just looking for seven furlongs."
John Allen (Cardiff): "Looked a little disappointing. Probably didn't handle the conditions."
Craig Williams (Ruuca): "Backed up a week later and taking on a group of quality three-year-olds, he was just off the back of the fourth horse in the run, we failed to be able to quicken when they sprinted."
Jamie Mott (Exeter): "He'll be gelded and will probably come back a nice horse."
Damien Oliver (Libertini): "Great run. The two colts were just a bit strong on the day but I was really happy with her effort."
Jamie Kah (Li'l Kontra): "Massive. I think she's going to be a 1400m horse, ideally. But she ran really well."
Luke Nolen (Brooklyn Hustle): "She was sound. She just prefers being on top of the ground."
Jye McNeil (Broadwayandfourth): "She ran an honest race. I think she'll be a nice horse in the autumn."
