2019 MARIBYRNONG PLATE – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Jerle has good speed but just five have been seen raceday so the map is very speculative. JERLE (1) ran a nice race on debut down the straight here and that raceday experience can be invaluable. Leading yard and bred to be smart. Nothing in the debut run to say that isn't the case.

BOOM DADDY (2) is the other with race day experience that he can put to good use. He will run well again after winning nicely and improving from run to run last time.

TAGALOA (10) has trialled up nicely and looks a winning hope, as do the well-bred RATHLIN (9) and HARD LANDING (8) who both run for leading yards that have already fired out key juvenile winners this season. Strong profiles.

The son of 2014 Lightning Stakes (Gr 1, 1000m) winner Snitzerland (Snitzel), Hard Landing staged a promising effort in winning here on debut. He began well and he shared the lead, racing closest to the grandstand side, at a steady early tempo. He got to the front as the pace increased at the 300m and then fought back for a narrow but good win. His Lindsay Park-trained stablemate Baaqyah raced close to the leaders, in fourth place before moving up to challenge nearing the 200m and she then battled gamely for (half head) second in a nice effort on debut. Tagaloa settled in eighth place, racing closer to the far side. He improved nicely from the 300m, went to third at the 100m and then fought on well to take the minor placing from the Godolphinraced colt Jerle who made ground from sixth to finish (2.4 lengths) fourth in a sound effort at his second race start.
