2019 QUEEN ELIZABETH STAKES – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Sully looks the pace in a race that doesn't look like being run at a strong tempo. TRUE SELF (5) had to wait on a run at Geelong and the strong winner had stolen a march on her by the time she got out and chasing him. Big effort in a race that rated really well and if she can build on what she did there then she can be too good for these.

TOP OF THE RANGE (7) stormed through the line to win at Bendigo and back up the big run in the Coongy prior. In career best form and a leading hope again. CARIF (8) was best of the rest last week and have to think that he runs well again.

SULLY (9) should be in the race for a long way with no obvious pressure around him on pace while the best of RED CARDINAL (1) would see him go close.

Queen Elizabeth Stakes (G3)

WT: 54.0kg Type: OPEN

Irish-trained mare True Self followed her unlucky second in the Geelong Cup (Gr 3, 2400m) on her Australian debut on October 23 with a very good win here. She travelled well for Ryan Moore in fifth place but was held up between runners in the straight before Moore steered her through a narrow gap to take the lead at the 200m. She then went on to score comfortably in a really good performance. Carif began well and then settled in third place on the rails. He got through on the inner to take the lead at the 300m and then fought on nicely for second, his third such placing on his last three starts. Maurus raced near the tail of the 11-horse field, tracked up from the 600m, commenced his move at the 300m and kept running on well for third with Ventura Storm battling on well for (2.5 lengths) fourth.
