A carnival horse back in town heads the Tips and Race Preview for the 2019 Festival Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday.

Ranier sets up nicely for this and is $4.60 in the 2019 Festival Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on Saturday.

2019 FESTIVAL STAKES – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

The main highlight of the afternoon with this year's Group 3 Festival Stakes. Speed map is up in the air with not a lot of speed on paper, could prove quite the tactical affair.

RANIER (14) was only narrowly edge out at Flemington last start and sets up very well back in trip, down in the weights. Rates highly and has drawn to receive all the favours for O'Hara. Not a prolific winner (3/19), but is still rarely far away. Hard to beat.

BOBBING (10) has been very good in both starts to begin this preparation and should be right at his peak racing third up. Drawn well and looms as a major threat.

SAMBRO (6) went to the paddock in good form and has to be kept safe fresh with JMac in the saddle. Last start Snake Gully Cup winner DON'T GIVE A DAMN (12) the next in line.

In an exciting finish the Godolphin-raced Ranier scored a last-stride win. He settled in fifth place on the rails from his inside barrier (1), improved along the inner rounding the home turn, was switched across heels by Kathy O'Hara at the 200m and he then came with a late bid to score narrowly. The John O'Shea-trained Live And Free was seventh on the rails, continued along the rails shortly after turning for home and looked the winner when took the lead at the 100m, only to be caught in the last few strides for a close second. Cellarman settled midfield, improved (under riding) on straightening and kept running on to take third in a photo. Invincible Gem raced outside the leader (Renewal), took a narrow lead at the 200m and then held on quite well under her top weight (59kg) for fourth.
