Draw And Weight Swing Favours Best Of Days

3 minute read

Best Of Days will be looking to go one better than his WA debut in Saturday’s Kingston Town Classic which would give jockey Brad Rawiller a third victory in WA’s middle distance feature.

Best Of Days impressed in his WA debut, finishing second to Regal Power in the Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) a fortnight ago.

Partnering Best Of Days in the Railway Stakes was Brad Rawiller who reunites with the UK import for the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) at Ascot.

“He goes in with a super chance off a terrific run in the Railway and is better suited under weight for age conditions of the Kingston Town,” Rawiller said.

Rawiller is chasing his third Kingston Town Classic after winning the event aboard Niconero in 2006 and 2008 while a Best Of Days’ victory would provide James Cummings with a maiden Group 1 victory in WA.

“Off how well he ran in the Railway I would like to think he should be better again tomorrow.”

“The other day I wouldn’t have said he was crying out for further. The mile on the day was as far as he wanted. He’s won the Coongy though over 2000m.

“You ride the race to run that distance. We get to the 1800m tomorrow. It is fantastic where we’ve drawn barrier 2 so hopefully we can just get him out clean.

“He’s a horse who isn’t an on speed runner but ideally you don’t want to get back either. He’s not the easiest horse to ride in terms of how he behaves himself in the gates. Hopefully we’ll be better than midfield.

Off a half length second to Regal Power in the Railway Stakes, Best Of Days while enjoying a favourable draw also gets a 3.5kg weight swing off Regal Power who will need luck in running from barrier 15. Two issues which concern Regal Power's owner Bob Peters.

“I think the weights work against him," Peters said.

"The Railway Stakes winners usually come from the lower weights which he was. Elite Belle won the Railway and then performed well in the Kingston Town and couldn’t win. Galaxy Star won the Railway well and couldn’t win the Kingston Town. There is a big discrepancy in the weights.”

“Best Of Days finished right alongside Regal Power and now meets him 3.5kg better.”

Best Of Days and Regal Power are quoted at $8.50 and $9.50 respectively behind clear favourite Tuscan Queen.
