The favourite Spurcraft recorded a very good first-up win, his ninth in 14 starts and his first at stakes level. He was quickly away and went straight to the front. He then travelled along at a good tempo, dashed clear halfway down the straight and went on to win easily. The Godolphin-raced Badajoz settled near the tail of the field from a wide barrier, stuck to the inner rounding the home turn and kept making ground along the rails to take second. Tycoon Ace began well and settled in third place on the rails. He got through to second at the home turn and then fought on in the straight for third. Invincible Al was a bit slow to move. He settled just beyond midfield on the rails, got along the inner to be third on straightening and then battled on for fourth on his first run back and his first start for new trainer Tony Gollan.
