Werribee to take over a Ballarat meeting

3 minute read

Drainage works have taken longer than anticipated to settle which has resulted in the transfer of an upcoming race meeting from Ballarat to Werribee.

A Ballarat meeting has been transferred to Werribee to give drainage work extra time to settle.

Significant work was done on the drainage during Ballarat's annual track renovation and it will not be ready for the January 19 meeting.

Along with the renovation, work was done on a section of the track between the winning post and 1700m after that area underwent significant works during the construction of the synthetic track earlier in the year.

The work included sand slitting and sand banding to improve drainage in areas of the track that suffered during the winter.

"While the club is disappointed in losing a race meeting, it was important that these works were undertaken at this time in order to provide us with more confidence in meeting racing commitments through the 2020 winter period," Ballarat Turf Club chief executive Belinda Glass, said.

Ballarat returns to racing on February 4.
