A win tomorrow will extend the run for Miss Fabulass

Kris Lees had a succinct comment this morning when discussing Miss Fabulass’ last-ditch attempt at Eagle Farm tomorrow to be a Magic Millions player next month.

"If she wins, she is in. If she loses, she's off to the paddock," he said in reference to the Magic Millions The Buffering (1400m).

Victory in the Listed race will secure a start for Miss Fabulass in the $1m Magic Millions Cup over the same distance at the Gold Coast on January 11.

Lees has left nothing to chance in trying to secure a berth in that event, booking top jockey Glen Boss for The Buffering and making what he hopes will be a vital gear change.

He has decided to put a tongue tie on Miss Fabulass, who stood flat-footed at the start when a disappointing eighth to Deep Image in the Listed Lough Neagh Stakes (1300m) at Eagle Farm a fortnight ago.

That performance was in stark contrast to her brilliant finish when she beat her own sex in the Listed Tatts Classic (1200m) at Doomben on November 23.

"Miss Fabulass  jumped well for Glen when he rode her for the first at Randwick in late October," Lees said.

"He and Nash Rawiller do a lot of riding for Singo (owner John Singleton), and I'm happy to have him on the mare tomorrow.

"Miss Fabulass got her tongue over the bit working at the Coast the other morning, hence the reason for using a tongue tie in tomorrow's race.

"It had nothing to do with her missing the start at Eagle Farm last time, but may have contributed to her disappointing overall performance.

"She is in good order, and I'm expecting her to run well tomorrow."

Lees also runs Cuban Sizzle (Andrew Mallyon) in the Benchmark 75 Handicap (1500m) at Eagle Farm, and she has drawn the inside barrier.

She drew the outside alley at her last run at the same track on December 14 when sixth to the promising Jeweliana in a Class 3 Plate (1400m).

. Lees debuts Exceed and Excel filly Miss Canada (Brenton Avdulla) in the 2YO Handicap (1000m) at Royal Randwick tomorrow.

Miss Canada, a $240,000 yearling purchase, won a Rosehill Gardens trial over 897m on December 17 when ridden by Hugh Bowman, who partners topweight and pre-post favorite Bartley, an impressive debut winner at Kembla Grange on December 14.

"The plan was always to get Miss Canada to this race, and I took her to Rosehill to trial when the Gosford trials were called off a week earlier because of poor air quality as a result of the smoke from bushfires," Lees explained.

"Hugh could not have made the weight to ride her tomorrow.

"The field has fallen away to only four runners and, though it still won't be an easy race to win, Miss Canada is a nice filly and I'm confident she will be very competitive."

Lees has accepted with both Stella Sea Sun (apprentice Sam Clenton) and Bubbles Ball (apprentice Robbie Dolan) in the Benchmark 78 Handicap (1200m) for fillies and mares, but is likely to rely on the former.

"Stella Sea Sun is coming up nicely, but this isn't a bad race," he said. "She has a good record with five wins from only 10 starts and has been runner-up at both her first-up starts so far and then unbeaten second-up."

Stablemate Fuji Fury has gained a run in the Benchmark 78 Handicap (1800m), but nonetheless is a doubtful starter.
