Return to racing at Kilmore delayed again

3 minute read

Two upcoming meetings scheduled for Kilmore have been transferred, with racing now scheduled to return to the course in early February.

The return to racing at Kilmore has been again pushed back with two upcoming meetings moved to other tracks.

The last meeting at the track was in November 2018 after which work began on a major upgrade.

Racing Victoria and the Kilmore Racing Club announced on Monday, Kilmore would not race until February 6.

The meeting scheduled for Tuesday week has been transferred to Werribee while the January 23 program will be run at Wangaratta.

"RV and KRC are taking a cautious approach to ensure that the Kilmore track is best placed to host racing on an ongoing basis following a major upgrade completed last spring with the support of the Government's Victorian Racing Industry Fund," RV said.

The renovation included the home straight being widened by five metres, an improved camber and also drainage improvements on sections of the course.

Meetings last spring were transferred to other tracks, including the Kilmore Cup meeting which was held at Seymour.

"The additional three weeks will ensure that the Kilmore track has had sufficient time to consolidate, taking into account the unusual weather patterns experienced throughout the final quarter of 2019," RV said.
