The Anthony Freedman-trained/Godolphin-raced colt Hanseatic, an impressive winner of the Merson Cooper Stakes (Listed, 1000m) on debut in November, resumed and maintained his unbeaten record with a dominant victory here. He was ridden quietly from his outside barrier (11) and settled just beyond midfield, wide with cover, before Luke Currie moved him up (deep) nearing the home turn. The colt dashed to the front at 200m and then drew away to record a brilliant win. The Robbie Griffiths-trained Glenfiddich began well and settled outside the leader (Claptone) at a smart tempo before going to the front on straightening. He then fought well for second in a good first-up effort at his third race start. The Lindsay Park-trained colt Fixated did not show much early pace and settled towards the tail of the field, on the rails. He improved along the inner rounding the home turn and kept running on nicely for third in a promising effort on debut. The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained Toscanini settled beyond midfield but was held up on turning for home and then made good late ground when finally clear for (4.7 lengths) fourth while his stablemate Tanker settled midfield, between runners, was shuffled back nearing the home turn and failed to gain clear running in the straight and his performance in finishing eighth should be overlooked.
