Overweight Tilley suspended at Kilcoy

3 minute read

Queensland's leading rider, Les Tilley, has been suspended for a week after being overweight for four rides at Kilcoy.

Queensland's leading jockey Les Tilley has been suspended for seven days for failing to make his allocated weight at Kilcoy.

Stewards opened an inquiry after Tilley was overweight for his rides at 54 and 54.5kg in four races on Thursday.

The last three races at the meeting were abandoned because of a slippery patch at the 800m.

After noting Tilley had a poor record in regards the offence, stewards suspended him for seven days until next Wednesday night.

Tilley was set to miss the weekend's racing as he is attending a long-planned social event on Saturday.

It means he will miss the ride on top three-year-old Master Jamie at Eagle Farm.

Tilley is one of the busiest jockeys riding at meetings all over Queensland but has a well-documented battle with his weight.

He is currently the leading jockey in the state with 56 for the season, one ahead of Jim Byrne who is on the injured list.
