2020 MANNERISM STAKES - RACE HISTORY AND BACKGROUND
The Mannerism Stakes is a Group 3 race for four-year-old mares and up conducted by the Melbourne Racing Club at Caulfield.
The Mannerism Stakes is run over 1400m under Set Weights and Penalty conditions.
The race is named after the grand mare trained by Lee Freedman who won multiple G1 races including a very famous Caulfield Cup in 1992 after Veandercross was very wide from the 800m mark.
It was first run in 1988 and despite some sponsored named, is registered as the Mannerism.
The 2020 Mannerism Stakes was worth $160,000 in prizemoney.
The Mannerism Stakes was run as a Listed race until 1993 when it was given Group 3 status.
They ran the 1996 race at Flemington.
The Mannerism Stakes has managed to produce some future G1 mares winners in the past like Lyrical Bid, Bonaria, Tycoon Tara and Silent Sedition.
Due to ownership issues, the 2016 race won by Azkadellia was awarded to Tuscan Sling.
Other notable winners of the Mannerism Stakes include Princess Pushy, Tolanda, Londolozi, Lyrical Bid, Seachange, Star Of Giselle, Bonaria, Tycoon Tara and Silent Sedition. She became the first multiple winner of the race.
The 2019 Mannerism Stakes was won by Jamaican Rain from Naantali and Teleplay.
