2020 PROUD MISS STAKES - RACE HISTORY AND BACKGROUND
The Proud Miss Stakes is a Group 3 race for fillies and mares conducted by the South Australian Jockey Club at Morphettville in Adelaide.
The Proud Miss Stakes was introduced in 2004 and is run over 1200m under set weights and penalty conditions.
The race carried different sponsor names in its early years but has been known as the Proud Miss Stakes since 2009 in honour of the outstanding Adelaide filly who won 10 races as a two-year-old and finished second in the 1962 Golden Slipper Stakes.
The Proud Miss Stakes is held on The Goodwood race day as part of the SAJC Autumn Carnival.
The Proud Miss Stakes was a Listed race from 2006-2013 and has been Group 3 since 2014.
The 2020 Proud Miss Stakes was run at Morphettville for prizemoney of $120,000 – reduced due to the coronavirus.
Earlier winners include Ice Dancer, Twinciti, Zipanese, Soaressa, Hanabananah, Dubleanny, Assertive Eagle, Miss Steele, Hazard, Fuhryk and She's So High.
The 2019 Proud Miss Stakes was won by Lady Cosmology from Miss Vixen and Lady Of Crebilly.
