2020 IRISH 1000 GUINEAS - RACE HISTORY AND BACKGROUND

The Irish 1000 Guineas is a Group 1 race run under Set Weight conditions for three year old fillies at the Curragh conducted by the Curragh Racecourse for Horse Racing Ireland.

The Irish 1000 Guineas is run over the mile. It was first run in 1922 and was won by Lady Violette.

It is the second of the fillies only Guineas races, three weeks after the English version. They often pattern on to the Coronation Stakes.

Winter - Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas

The Irish 1000 Guineas is run on the round course.

The race hasn't quite got the pedigree of the Irish 2000 Guineas.

Four fillies have done the English 1000 Guineas/Irish 1000 Guineas double – Attraction, Finsceal Beo, Winter and Hermosa.

After taking the Irish 1000 Guineas of 2018, Alpha Centauri would win the Coronation Stakes, Falmouth Stakes and Jacques Le Marois.

Aidan O'Brien trained the trifecta in 2017, all of whom would end up G1 winners that season.

Leading trainer is held by Aidan O'Brien with eight wins.

Most wins as a jockey is by Morny Wing with seven.

The Irish 1000 Guineas was reduced to £250,000 in 2020 due to the coronavirus.

Notable winners of the Irish 1000 Guineas include Hermosa (2019), Alpha Centauri (2018), Winter (2017), Misty For Me (2011), Again (2009), Halfway To Heaven (2008), Finsceal Beo (2007), Attraction (2004), Imagine (2001), Ridgewood Pearl (1995), Kooyonga (1991), In The Groove (1990) and Sonic Lady (1986).

The 2019 Irish 1000 Guineas was won by Hermosa from Pretty Pollyanna and Foxtrot Liv.
